Truck & Trailer Conspicuity
DOT-C2 is a prescribed pattern — 2 in alternating red/white at 250 RA minimum. Layout is not a design choice.
The FMVSS 108 pattern is prescriptive — the tape must alternate red and white, two inches wide, minimum 250 RA, applied to the surfaces the rule names. A creative layout fails inspection however good the film is.
NVR-C2 ships as 2 in × 150 ft rolls with the DOT-C2 marking on the liner, so the installer can prove what went on the trailer two years later. It is self-certified in the US: there is no DOT certificate, which is why some suppliers claim one.
Edge sealing is recommended on aluminium and painted steel. On a fleet that runs through winter salt, the edge is what fails first, not the face.

EU Fleet Marking
ECE 104R Class C covers conspicuity marking for vehicles registered in ECE markets — a different mark, often the same film.
Emergency Vehicles
Chevron kits and door graphics: Type IV field with HTV lettering, both able to survive decal removal.
Rail & Port Equipment
Locomotive and crane panels are large, flat and seen from far away at shallow angles — Type VIII territory.
