Red and white, in the pattern the inspector expects.
NVR-C2 is a 50 mm microprismatic tape alternated red and white to the FMVSS 108 pattern, sold in 45.7 m rolls. NVR-C3 is the ECE 104R Class C equivalent for European fleets, where the pattern requirement differs.
Both use the same pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive, rated for application down to 5 °C — the reason a winter retrofit in Rotterdam does not end up in a rework claim.
Six models, four standards.
Tape and fabric are specified by wash cycle and standard, not by colour — so the table leads with those two columns.
| Model | Product | RA white | Backing | Width | Standard | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NVR-C2 | Conspicuity tape, red/white | 250 | Microprismatic, PSA | 50 mm | FMVSS 108 · DOT-C2 | 7 yr |
| NVR-C3 | Conspicuity tape, ECE pattern | 250 | Microprismatic, PSA | 50 mm | ECE 104R Class C | 7 yr |
| NVR-FR200 | FR reflective fabric | 500 | 65/35 poly-cotton, FR | 1,270 / 1,520 mm | EN ISO 20471 · ANSI 107 | 50 washes |
| NVR-TC150 | T/C reflective fabric | 330 | Poly-cotton, non-FR | 1,270 mm | EN ISO 20471 | 25 washes |
| NVR-HTV100 | Heat transfer vinyl | 300 | PU carrier, 60 µm | 500 mm | — | 30 washes |
| NVR-PT50 | Reflective piping | 420 | Polyester braid | 50 mm | EN ISO 20471 | 25 washes |
Fabric RA values are measured at 5° observation / 30° entrance angle per EN ISO 20471 Annex A; tape values at 0.2° / −4° per ASTM D4956. Wash durability tested to ISO 6330 6N at 60 °C.
The wash cycle is where cheap tape fails.
Industrial laundry is brutal: 60 °C, alkaline detergent, mechanical action, 50 cycles. Most reflective tape loses 40% of its RA by cycle 20. NVR-FR200 is built for the opposite expectation.
Retention measured against the unwashed lot, not against the standard minimum. Ask for the wash-cycle report — it is 6 pages and it is public.
Short runs without a sewing line.
Three ways to put reflectivity on a garment when the volume does not justify a fabric order.
NVR-HTV100 heat transfer vinyl
60 µm PU carrier, die-cuts cleanly at 45°, transfers in 12 seconds. The default for team kit, promo apparel and small-batch workwear.
NVR-PT50 reflective piping
Braided polyester sleeve with a 12 mm reflective core, for collars, cuffs and trouser hems where a flat tape will not follow the seam.
NVR-YN25 reflective yarn
Retroreflective yarn for knitted cuffs and elastic bands. 250 denier, spin-dyed silver, knit or weave compatible.
| Transfer method | Temperature | Pressure | Time | Peel | Wash |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heat press, flat | 150 °C | 3.5 bar | 12 s | Cold | 30 cycles |
| Heat press, cap | 145 °C | 4.0 bar | 15 s | Cold | 20 cycles |
| Rotary calender | 165 °C | — | 8 m/min | Cold | 30 cycles |
Settings are starting points for 100% cotton. For polyester blends drop 10 °C and halve dwell time — overheating dulls the prism face permanently.
What factory buyers ask first.
Three answers that usually decide the order.
Yes. FMVSS 108 specifies 50 mm width with alternating red and white segments, applied in a continuous strip along the trailer perimeter. The pattern is part of the requirement — a solid red tape of the same RA does not comply, and inspectors do check the alternation.
NVR-FR200 is qualified to 50 cycles at 60 °C under ISO 6330 6N with 88% RA retention. Above 50 cycles we recommend NVR-FR200-HT, which trades 12% initial brightness for a heavier encapsulation layer.
Both classify by the area of visible material on the garment, not by the material itself. EN ISO 20471 uses three classes and requires a minimum fluorescent background area; ANSI/ISEA 107 adds a Type dimension (O, R, P) for off-road, road and public-safety use. The same fabric can serve both — the garment design decides the class.
Ordering tape & fabric
Tape can ship mixed-colour within one pallet. Fabric is produced to order — no stock colours beyond silver and fluorescent yellow.
