The data behind the grade.

Every model we sell has a technical data sheet with the numbers that decide whether it passes inspection — not a marketing page with a range and a logo.

Why this page exists

Most suppliers publish a catalogue. Buyers need a data sheet.

In a survey of 29 competitor sites in this industry, fewer than one in ten published a technical data sheet at all. The rest publish a brochure with a brightness number and a warranty length. That is enough to place an order and not enough to defend one in an inspection.

Measured values, not "up to". Where a figure is a minimum, it says so.
Each sheet states the test geometry — an RA number without 0.2°/−4° attached is not comparable.
Service temperature, adhesive type and liner release are listed because they cause most field failures.
Every sheet carries an issue date and a revision number, so a tender can reference a specific version.

Data sheet index

Ten models, one table, comparable numbers.

Sorted by grade. Every value here appears identically on the PDF, so a quotation can reference either.

White RA at 0.2° observation / −4° entrance, cd·lx⁻¹·m⁻². Thickness and service temperature are nominal; tolerances are on each data sheet.

Optical behaviour

A reflective film is not a light source. It is a mirror with a narrow cone.

Retroreflection depends on two angles, and most catalogue numbers quietly assume the best one.

Effect of entrance angle

40°1570220300
45°1045150200
Glass-bead film loses 85% of its brightness by 45° entrance. Prismatic film loses 70–80%. This is the number that decides whether a sign works for a driver 200 m away or only for one directly underneath it.

1.5°42%55%78%88%
Observation angle is set by the driver's eye height and the distance to the sign. A truck cab at 3.5 m and a car at 1.2 m do not see the same sign the same way — which is why a wider-angle grade earns its price on a freight corridor.
Field failures

What actually goes wrong, and why.

Compiled from 41 warranty investigations since 2019. The material was at fault in nine of them.

Eight failures we have investigated in the field, the mechanism behind each, and the measure that prevents it. This table is usually more useful than the data sheet.
SymptomMechanismPrevention
Edge lifting within a weekApplied below 10 °C, so initial tack never developed. The film looked bonded and was not.Substrate at 15 °C minimum, two passes with a 4 kg roller, 24 h before the sign goes up.
Hazy white patchesResidual solvent trapped because the oven was run above line speed.Coating log tied to line speed; residual solvent held under 0.5% and checked per lot.
Night brightness fades in 18 monthsSurface contamination plus water ingress at an unsealed edge on prismatic film.Seal edges on Type VIII and above; wash interval specified in the installation sheet.
Print looks washed out after a yearGeneral-purpose film printed with UV ink and no primer layer.Use NVR-P3500, which carries an inline primer, or laminate.
Film cracks when unrolled in winterAdhesive glass transition above the ambient temperature.Low-temp adhesive variant, or condition the roll at 20 °C for 24 h before use.
Bubbles under the filmDry application on a large panel with no air-release channel.Wet application, or air-release liner. On 1.5 m panels there is no third option.
Uneven reflectivity across a rollBead settling in the coating pan between runs.Bath agitation interval fixed at 20 min; RA checked at both ends of every roll.
Yellowing after three summersInsufficient UV absorber in the top film.2,000 h xenon-arc before a formulation is released — not a 500 h screening test.
Method equivalence

ASTM, EN and GB measure the same property three ways.

If you are comparing a Chinese quote with a European one, this is the table that explains the gap.

The same property is measured differently in each system. A test report is only evidence inside the system it was issued for.

The practical consequence An ASTM D4956 report will not satisfy a European notified body, and a CE declaration of performance will not satisfy a US state DOT. The film can be identical. Budget for two reports — or ask us for the pair, which is cheaper than commissioning them separately.
